EX3 East

The Hunt

You can feel it in your very soul. You are closer to having proof that the guild had your wife soul eaten than ever before. You’ve tracked the Jeweler to his estate and now watch from the roof of a nearby building from the shadows. The building itself isn’t incredibly large but you do notice the guards he has keeping an eye out……. (roll aware and perception for more details if you want)

Comments

Cade, as his friends call him narrows his eyes as he watches the building from a side ally. “Well isn’t this just splendid…” he remarks to himself dryly. “Well no time like the present.” he adjusts his light cloak and straightens his posture, his face becoming a mask of indifference as he approaches the building, opening there for softly as he enters to look around. (no suxx on percep + awareness)

The Hunt

At 0 successes you just now noticed a building was there……

Two guards block the entrance to the main gate. Both look like former soldiers that know how to handle themselves. The gate itself is made of iron and is roughly 15 tall and even with the wall of the estate. The guards keep a hand on their swords at their sides as you approach.

The Hunt

“Is that really necessery? I am here to speak to your master, it is business. He should know me. Cadence, Pure Cadence.” he says, his left hand resting on his hip.

The Hunt

Give me a presence or a socialize roll to see how well this works out. Your choice. Take a lv 2 stunt for sheer audacity.

The guards seem to be at a loss for words. They look confused as they have never heard of you but your brazen approach has definitely made them question if you are a threat…..

The Hunt

(( 12 dice on a Manipulation + socialize roll with the alluring specialty and +2 stut for 9 successes))

The Hunt

“Now if you please, i will see myself in.” he moves to walk path them, confident, strong, sexy. capable.

The Hunt

At 9 successes, they snap to, give you a salute, and hold the gate open for you. You now have a direct path up to the front door or easy access to the windows on the second floor should you choose an alternate route.

The Hunt

Cadence continues forward, at a leisurly pace. His eyes alert to his surroundings. As he walks through the entry hall he stops at a mirror, noticing himself, brushing a dark lock of hair behind his ear and tidying his appearance. “Well, cadence,” he muses, “Time to get some answers.” he knocks on the closed door in front of him.

The Hunt

It takes several knocks before a servant boy opens the door. He looks thoroughly confused by you and your appearance. “I’m here to see your Master” you say. He pauses for a moment an then dutifully allows you into the house. You walk down a long hallway and turn the corner into a library. Past the library you encounter another door.

One more percept+Awareness check.

The Hunt

(( 3 successes on percep + aware)) He saunters into the room and removes his cloak. He is cautious but resolute as he walks, stopping at the aforementioned door.

The Hunt

At the door you hear the obvious sounds of laughter and socializing on the other side. The young servant looks at you and speaks "You don’t look dressed for the party my lord. "

The Hunt

“Well then it seems I will have to refreshen myself. Perhps you you have a changing room that i may use before i enter?” he asks witha quirked eyebrow

The Hunt

“Uh yes indeed my lord” He takes you around the corner to an empty room with a mirror and leaves you alone.

The Hunt

He enters the room quietly and looks around. “Now how to make myself presentable.” he examine shimself in the mirror, his rogueish good looks might be eccentric at the party but…."he looks at the curtains and smiles. “But do i have the time?”

The Hunt

Smiling wickedly he pulls down the emerald and damask drapes folding and twisting the fabric into an ornate and elaborate wrap, draped upon his shoulders. Many in elite social circles say he is alluring and he plays up to that, his pale skin an exotic note in these eastern realms. And his eyes a bright green that he subly lines with khole he pulls from a pouch. raising some of the fabric over his head like a cowl he now looks like a distant merchant prince arriving far from the dreaming sea. “Well this will simply have to do” he smiles rakishly and moves to enter the party, like a fog in the forest upon the spring, and words to match upon his full lips.

The Hunt

If for no other reason than I want to see this happen, yes you do have the time. Plenty.

The Hunt

(( 3 suxx on Appearance and socialize also if okay I am retroactivly spending 2m and a wp for Penumbra self meditation to bury the intimacy of his children , to keep them safe more or less))

The Hunt

Yup on the Penumbra. No issues there.

At 3 successes you appear like a well dressed, though perhaps slightly haggard from traveling merchant. The servant boy looks genuinely surprised by your transformation. “Should I announce you my lord?”

The Hunt

“Indeed. Cadence. That should suffice. If you wiull lead the way.” he motions for the boy to move and frowns slightly when his back is turned.

The Hunt

You enter the room and the smell of fragrant intoxication nearly knocks you over. Men and women lounge about with guests in various states of undress. It appears to be a social engagement among the local merchants from town. You have heard rumors that the Guild was recruiting in this area.

Near the back of the room sitting on a small ornate stool sits your jeweler you have been following. A younger looking man close to your age. He is wearing a long sleeve silk tunic and dark pants with fine leather boots that reach his knees. His green eyes appear to be bright and perceptive against his dark hair pulled back into a ponytail held in place by a gold signet ring. He has a walking cane in front of him on which he rests his jeweled hands on. Hands covered in large rings on each finger and matching silver rings in the tops of his ears and a single silver piercing in his right eye brows.

The Hunt

Cadence waits for the boy to announce him and approaches the jeweler. As he hears he lowers his hood slowly, seductivly almost his dark hair cascading from the restraint. he bows with a flourish. He is dashing and novel. "Sir, it is an honor to be among you and your guests. Thwy call me Cadence, I am sorry that i have arrived late, it seems the festivities started without me, I hope that my absence was not, missed. " he looks up from the bow/kneel with a gleam in his eyes and a sly smile that is both agressive and inviting.

The Hunt

The man smiles a wolfish grin at you. “Welcome Cadence. I can’t say I remember inviting you……” He sticks his hand out to you offering a shake with the same smile. “Gideon Kell at your service. And your trade is?”

The Hunt

“Gems, of many variety. Size cut color… clarity. I think we could be fast friends. "he stands and straightens his posture. “And as for the invite. You didnt, i took a chance” he smirks again with a wink. then shakes the merchants hand. “Opportunity knocks but seldom and it is better to take an opportunity by any means necessery, wouldnt you say? May I?” he motions to a chair. We have much to discuss I think."

The Hunt

From your time tracking Gideon you know he is new to the area. A jeweler by trade he seems to be leading the efforts to recruit and establish a guild presence here. He isn’t partaking of the party’s amusements but seems to be noting the vices of those present. You aren’t sure what he knows but this is your best lead so far………..

The Hunt

“Well met Cadence. I couldn’t agree more. Fortune favors the bold and as you can see from our compatriots not everyone shares your enthusiasm for pressing matters. Let us take a break from these distractions.”

He motions you through a door on the opposite side of the room. He walks with no limp so you assume the cane is for more fashion than utility.

“I do believe I recall that you are well known for your beautiful cuts and that your taste in rare stones is impeccable. I do believe we may be able to discuss some business.”

He leads you to yet another study though much smaller than the other and obviously built and decorated for comfort and privacy. He offers you a seat on a nearby divan and walks to a glass bottle that looks like it could be made of diamonds. " Wine imported from Port Calin. I know a vineyard there with exquisite product and had a case shipped her at an astronomical cost to myself. I do not waste such perfection on the teeming masses out there. Would you care for a glass?"

The Hunt

“I would be honored for such a treasure. You are truly an inpeccable host. This will not be forgotten. You are new to Palanquin? At least that is what my information has told me. You have heard of me I have heard of you” he smiles and accepts the glass.“Perhaps we could, help eachother. I make an excellent back scratcher, if you catch my drift.” he sips, long and slow obviously savoring the blood red liquid. “we get nothing so fine here. a true gift.”

The Hunt

“I’m glad you like it. Good taste seems to be in short supply these days. As do reliable allies and partners. Forgive me for the assumptions and misleading you. I have indeed heard of you Cadence. I have heard rumors that you have become much more spectacular than just your fine taste in jewels and fine wines. I have also heard about the tragedy that has befallen your wife. I offer you my sincerest apologies though I know they will provide you little comfort. I can only assume your presence here means you suspect that I had something to do with it. Let me put your mind at ease: I did not have your wife attacked and I know nothing of who may have done it though I do have my suspicions. So as two mutual business men and soon to be the best of friends and allies, lets cut to the chase. You want information from me and I am happy to assist you in anyway I can. You see this is mutually beneficial to me as well. If my assumptions prove true it is only a matter of time before I end up with the same fate as your beloved wife”

The Hunt

He looks visibly surprised. “My information i must admit, since we are speaking quite frankly. Led me to belive you knew something not that you had been responsible for the act. I appriciate your words. Her loss was tragic i must admit. But what makes you think that the same fate is coming for you?”

The Hunt

He offers you another glass. “I have never been content with my lot in life Cadence. From my very birth I was destined to be a street urchin or worse. You see I was an orphan in the Vrangian states. My entire destiny chosen for me by an arbitrary alignment of stars interpreted by a group of people that knew nothing about me.”
He unbuttoned the high collar on his shirt and displays an ugly yet neatly designed black tattoo from his collar bones to the start of his neck.
“In my homelands we are marked and can never rise above our station. I refused.”
He buttons his tunic back up and continues “I fought and scraped and did everything I could to survive. I fled my homeland looking for a better life and eventually found the Guild. A master jeweler took me in. Gave my life a purpose, and provided me the skills to make my way in life. Still I was never satisfied. I craved more. A better life than I was fated. After his death I took over his business much to the chagrin of his family. I made deals and enemies and insinuated myself into the Guild structure. I made my wealth quickly and rose faster than inshould have. It still didn’t fill the hunger I had so when I found this market of untapped potential I stakes my claim and vowed to succeed where others have failed. Palaquin does not want the Guild or appreciate change. I came here to guide it into a new economic future and build it into the Nexus of the south. As I said though Palaquin fears change. I feel like your wife and I are connected by those forces that want to force me out of the city. Other merchants have been attacked like your family. All have initially turned me down for an alliance. My suspicion is that I am being framed in order to build up an anti Guild movement. Once it has enough power I will be removed one way or another…….”

The Hunt

“And my wife was targeted to steer me away from the organization in which i am a member” he sips and scratches his chin. “But to what end? The Guild already has a presence here, albeit a small one. It is inevitable. and pushing it out wont accomplish much of anything. COuld the guild itself be trying to rid themselvesof you? I must admit a part of me wondered if the guild targeted my wife to keep me on a shorter leash…. Now i wonder”

The Hunt

" It is very possible. Or it could be another party who has yet to show their hand completely yet. As you see by helping you find the truth I also help protect myself. And if we are honest here the most trustworthy man is one who is trying to save himself. I had this party so that I could try to dig deeper into this mystery. "

The Hunt

“well then, to the party.” he raises his glass in toast and sips. "Should we emerge in a disorderly state, let the rumor mill start. it could cause someone to tip their hand early.

The Hunt

“I couldn’t agree more. Let them think us reckless and weak. " he says this as he spills a bit of the wine on himself and ruffles his hair into a disarray. “Also I think we should spread the word that you are my bodyguard as well. These should prove adequate reasons to explain your presence at any hour as well as needing you in any sensitive meetings. What are your thoughts on the matter?”

He produces a small scroll from his breast pocket and tosses it to you as you speak.

The Hunt

“I am a known merchant of quality stones, you are a Jeweler. Let people think us allies, no need for the obfuscation. Me changing professions would raise more red flags than us becoming business partners.” HE dishsevels his own hair and unlaces the top of his tunic. “people might think we are sleeping together, leaving to private chmbers amidst a party full of intoxicants. Be prepared for that.” he opens the scroll and skims the passage with a thoughtful expression and places it in his right breast pocket. HE leaves the drapery in the room with a smirk to Gideon and opens the door to reemerge into the party with a drunken smile on his face.

The Hunt

Psst. Don’t forget to look at the scroll he tossed you…..

The Hunt

((i diiiiiidddd lol))

The Hunt

Oh damn. I really need to get more sleep…..

The scroll has a list of 7 names. Titles really. The paragraph briefly explains Gideon’s suspicions (its his own note to himself) that these 7 figures control almost everything in Pallaquin since it has been conquered.

The Lady of Pleasures (Concubine and whore trade?)

The Master of Silver (drug trade?)

The Purveyor of Flesh (slave market?)

The Merchant of Death (contract killings? could they be the Shadowborn?)

The Mistress of Whispers (intelligence gathering?)

The Lord of Light (Faith?)

The Regent Umbra (leader???)

The Hunt

(( is anything elsehappening at/after the party?))

The Hunt

The usual drunkeness. You can socialize if you want or make your next move. Gideon follows you out and returns to his stool at the back of the party occasionally indulging his guests in light conversation.

The Hunt

Cade lingers about the party, drinking slowly, to avoid drunkenness but always appearing to have a drink in his hand. He introduces himself as Kansai, and is a charming rake, causing giggles and lusts to rise. but he leaves with desires of others unfulfilled, shaking the persona off when he returns home like a dirty shawl. “I will avenge you my love…” he says as he looks in on the shell of his wife, sitting quietly , like the dead, in a rocker that faces the window.

The Hunt

At this point just let me know where you want to go and do and we will take it from there.

The Hunt

A Few nightslater Cade finds himself wandering the streets. The names on that list burned into his brain, etched into his soul. He Whispers the titles softly to himself like a mantra. “The Lady of pleasures. Where do you Dwell, A Prison in heaven or a palace in hell….” He closes his eyes, the truye part of his soul locked away like a gift. He is Kansai, it is strange how clothes posture and a bit of makeup can even make those most familiar with you see you as someone different. he smiles as he approches this final pleasure house on his list. “Well well well, what do we have here Kansai, a night of fun, ah but that is all our nights you dear dear boy.” he enters the building.

The Hunt

The Raven’s Den is a modest pleasure house in a modest part of the city. The blue streamers hanging by its door are the only indication of what lies inside. That and the boarded up windows……

Inside is a typical example of an inn. The bottom floor has many tables and a bar that serves copious amounts of various liquors. Stairs lead up to the second and third floors where one can rent a room for any amount of time.

Around you people are drinking and singing. An older gentleman dressed in workers clothes strums on a lute while the crowd gathered around him sing a drunken lullaby from the area.

In other parts of the tavern, near the shadows, the working girls and boys kiss and coddle or do far worse to the patrons in an effort to secure their hourly rate upstairs. Banners of light blue hang from the rafters with the well known Raven sitting on top of a heart sigil stitched into the front. The bar tender is a grizzled looking veteran of some type of violent occupation. He is stone cold sober and keeps and eye on the patrons. Looking closer you see that there are a few “patrons” in cloaks. Most likely guards keeping an eye out for any rowdy customers.

You spot an empty stool near the bar.

The Hunt

Kansai saunters into the bar and sits on the stool, motioning for a pleasure boy to approach him. “It has been a long day and i am tense, massage my neck” he tosses him money, being overly flashy is a trademark of Kensai, standing out oddly makes him less noticed for who he truly is.

The Hunt

“What can I get for you?” The bartenders voice is an odd mix of growl and smooth bass. Upon closer inspection you notice the scare across his neck from ear to ear. A soldier then. Or at least someone that lead a violent life at one point.

The Hunt

“Sweet smoke and firebrandy, neat. This place is new? I do not recall seeing it in the recent past.”

The Hunt

“That’s funny because I don’t remember seeing you here either.” He gives you a gruff scowl as he sets your drink down. (Perception + Awareness)

The Hunt

He takes the drink and takes two long sips with his eyes closed. “Well it is a beautiful establishment. It shows a womens touch, is the mistress of the house around?” (( 2 suxx on percep + awareness))

The Hunt

Your drink looks normal. The sweet smell of the liquor drifts up towards you. The bartender looks noticeably agitated now. You only just catch the tell tale look he shoots to one of the assumed guards.

“There ain’t no lady here mister. And if there was one, she wouldn’t be turning any tricks for a no name like you.” He plants both palms on the bar and glares at you.

The Hunt

“I do not wish to seek the embrace of a woman this evening. You are far far too presumptuous sir. and do you reserve this anger for all of your guests? Or am i particularly special?” he sets the drink down and watches the bartender passivly.
